OUR MISSION

The Sawnee Association of the Arts is dedicated to providing a rich visual arts experience for Cumming and Forsyth County residents. Among our many members are painters in oil, water color, acrylic, and other media; potters, wood turners, 3D artists, photographers and others. During the year there are many opportunities to participate in shows and exhibits. Anyone, regardless of art ability, is welcome to join.  To learn more, click the JOIN button at the top of the page.

OUR HISTORY

The Sawnee Association of the Arts (SAA) was founded in 1974 and continues to serve the Forsyth County community as a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. Our mission is to provide enriching visual arts experiences for the community.

As part of that mission, the SAA opened the Hamilton Gallery at the Sawnee Cultural Arts Center in September 2002. The Hamilton Gallery closed in October of 2005 with the sale of the SCAC to Forsyth County.

The Sawnee Artists Gallery opened in the events room of the Humpus Bumpus Bookstore In November 2006 and continued operation until January of 2009. Our thanks to owner Paul Cossman for allowing us to use his facility.

After the closing of the gallery at Humpus Bumpus, Bob and Adrian Terie stepped up and allowed us to hang our work in their restaurant, Hangry’s. Once Hangry’s closed we began looking for a new location to display our art. We relocated the Gallery to the Sexton Hall Enrichment in 2012 and had to close this gallery due to upcoming renovations.

During 2016, SAA leased space previously occupied by Main Street Interiors east of the intersection of Canton Highway and Bethelview Road in Cumming, GA.   The Center allowed SAA to establish a gallery, gift shop and studio space for teaching art classes.  The Center was closed at the end of the year.  Our thanks to building owners Jay and MJ David for the opportunity lease the space during 2016.
